모든 빛에는 이야기가 있고, 모든 동작에는 기억이 있습니다.
이 연대기는 집이 다르게 표현되는 순간들을 모아둔 기록입니다: 만남, 계절, 작업실의 기억, 다정한 손길, 먼 곳에서 온 한마디.
이들은 우리의 일상 속 섬세한 실을 이루며, 기술이 감정과 만나고 정밀함이 시가 되는 곳입니다.
여기서 빛은 단순한 빛이 아닙니다: 그것은 연결, 대화, 통로가 됩니다.
세대와 소재, 시선을 이어 흐르는 메아리, 진정한 아름다움이 종종 동작의 인내와 전승의 침묵 속에 있음을 상기시켜 줍니다.
피엘 가족의 시선
저희는 항상 조명 디자인에 관심을 가져왔습니다. 솔직히 말해서, 빛은 단순히 건축의 네 번째 차원이 아니라, 공간의 분위기에 깊은 영향을 미치며 궁극적으로 생물학적·심리적 수준에서 우리 자신에게까지 영향을 줍니다. 수년 동안 저희는 이 매혹적인 디자인 분야의 최신 기술 개발을 꾸준히 따라가려고 노력했지만, 진정으로 생각을 자극하거나 개념적으로 과감한 조명이 등장하는 경우는 드뭅니다. 그러나 가끔씩 혁신적이면서도 기존 틀에서 벗어난 조명 디자인을 만나게 되는데, 이는 매우 드문 일이지만 실제로 존재하며, Fosfens의 MagicEye 데스크 램프가 바로 그 중 하나입니다.
MagicEye는 여러 측면에서 인상적입니다. 첫째, 전기 조명의 순수한 경이로움을 일깨워 주며, 전기가 처음 도입되던 19세기 말의 초기 시절을 떠올리게 합니다. 당시 조명은 현대 과학과 기술의 경이로움을 보여주는 데 주로 사용되었습니다. 포트홀 형태의 본체와 눈을 닮은 볼록한 렌즈를 가진 Fosfens의 데스크 램프는 약간 독특한 스팀펑크적 미학을 지니고 있으며, 이 거의 마법 같은 테마를 시적으로 표현합니다.
더 중요한 것은, MagicEye는 정밀한 엔지니어링과 최고 수준의 장인정신이라는 탁월한 품질로 주목할 만하다는 점입니다. 이렇게 아름답게 제작된 제품과 상호작용하는 것은 진정한 기쁨입니다. 또한, 램프가 내뿜는 빛은 거의 조각품 같은 성질을 지니고 있어, 빛을 놀라운 정밀도로 강조할 수 있습니다.
디자인의 독특한 실루엣 역시 성공의 핵심 요소로, 조용한 예술성과 세련된 럭셔리함을 발산하는 아이코닉한 성격을 부여합니다. 요컨대, MagicEye는 과거와 연결되면서도 기술적으로 미래를 바라보는 매혹적인 디자인입니다. Fosfens의 원격 인광 기술(Remote Phosphor)을 적용하여 빛의 안정성과 기능적 내구성을 완벽하게 구현한 덕분입니다. 보이지 않는 엄격함
MagicEye의 중심에서, 모든 리브와 모든 내부 체적은 단순히 설계되는 것이 아니라, 열을 제어하고 빛을 안정시키며 시간이 지나도 그 순도를 유지하기 위해 치밀하게 사고되고 계산되며 정교하게 통제된다. 진정한 엄격함은 아무도 바라보지 않는 곳에서 드러난다.
이러한 엄격함은 우리의 유산에서 비롯된다. 항공 산업의 요구 속에서 형성된 기술적 노하우로, 공차는 미크론 단위로 측정되며 정밀함은 하나의 예술이 된다. 이곳에서 재료는 결코 가볍게 다뤄지지 않는다. 철저히 통제된다.
이 보이지 않는 메커니즘의 핵심인 히트 싱크는 표준 부품이 아니다. 하나의 덩어리에서 깎아 만들어져 열을 유도하고 공기 흐름을 균형 있게 조절하며 빛의 순도를 보장하고 우리의 Light Engine의 최적 성능을 이끌어낸다. 모든 과정은 내부에서 이루어지며 시선에서 벗어나 있지만, 그 어떤 것도 이 엄격함을 벗어나지 못한다.
모든 빛의 광선은 이 조용한 정밀함을 이야기한다. 보이지 않는 것이 우리가 인식하는 모든 것을 결정한다. 이 절제된 메커니즘은 작업장의 심장이며, 공학이 시로 변환되는 보이지 않는 서명이다.

빛이 음악이 될 때
두 개의 f 형태의 공명구.
고요하지만 forte.
Fosfens에서 우리의 두 f는 이 오래된 제스처를 다시 이어간다. 원 안에 새겨진 아나그램처럼 대칭을 이루며 존재한다. 의도된 은유. 1924년, 만 레이는 키키 드 몽파르나스의 등에 바이올린의 f홀을 연상시키는 두 개의 형상을 그리고 Le Violon d’Ingres라 서명한다. 앵그르의 고전적 구도에서 영감을 받아 Littérature 잡지에 처음 게재된 이 이미지는 형식과 자유, 전통과 대담함 사이의 대화를 보여준다. 한 세기가 지난 지금, 이는 역사상 가장 중요한 사진 작품 중 하나로 평가되며, 어떤 형태는, 어떤 빛은 침묵 이후에도 계속해서 진동한다는 사실을 상기시킨다.
여기에서도 모든 것은 소리 없이 이루어진다.
빛과 음악, 형태와 기능은 장식이 아니라 지속되는 진동으로 서로를 응답한다.
교차하는 시선
나에게 특히 깊은 인상을 남긴 한 장의 사진.
거의 20년 동안 우리의 길은 빛의 세계에서, 그리고 가장 까다로운 프로젝트를 수행하는 다국적 기업들 속에서 계속해서 교차해 왔다. 그리고 언제나 변하지 않는 열정은 하나였다: 빛을 이해하고 그것을 더욱 승화시키는 것.
니콜라와의 대화는 언제나 솔직하고, 기술적이며, 때로는 비전적이었다. 나는 LVMH, 몽테뉴 거리 22번지의 강당에서 열린 LED Expo의 한 에디션을 기억한다. 그곳은 우아함으로 가득한 공간이었고, 그 안의 대화 역시 그에 걸맞게 우아했다. 우리가 그 의미를 완전히 인식하기도 전에 이루어진, 어떤 의미에서는 창립적인 대화들이었다.
빛은 단순히 비추는 것이 아니다. 때로는 깨지지 않는 우정을 맺어주기도 한다.
작은 빛
이 연말에, 어느 날 아침 작은 빛 하나가 조금은 엉뚱한 생각과 함께 깨어났다고 한다.
기지개를 켜고, 주위를 둘러본 뒤 이렇게 말했다:
“이 집에 조금의 따뜻함을 다시 돌려줄 수 있을지도 몰라…”
그래서 아직 잠든 주방을 부드럽게 밝히기 시작했다.
아빠가 커피를 준비할 수 있을 만큼만.
그리고 우리를 깨우기 위해 준비할 수 있을 만큼만.
그리고 빛은 조용히 떠났다.
가구 위를 튀어 오르고, 벽을 따라 미끄러졌다.
좋은 것들이 그러하듯, 조용히 우리의 삶 속으로 스며들었다.
그것은 마법 같다.
어린 동생에게 단순한 “안녕” 한마디가 하루를 바꿀 수 있다는 것을 떠올리게 할 수 있다.
누군가 일어나기를 망설이던 방을 따뜻하게 만들 수 있다.
두 자매가 더 이상 말을 건네지 못하던 거실을 부드럽게 만들 수 있다.
그리고 각자가 잃었다고 믿었던 것들을 여기저기에서 다시 깨울 수 있다.
하루가 끝날 무렵, 작은 빛은 한 가지를 깨닫게 된다:
아무것도 특별한 것을 바꾼 것은 아니다.
단지 가장 중요한 것.
정말로 중요한 것뿐이다.
엄마가 말하듯, 올바른 빛이 있다면 모든 것은 아름다워질 수 있다.

빛의 실
최근에 나는 “프랑스 제조(Made in France)”가 단순한 라벨을 넘어, 무엇보다 하나의 약속이라는 글을 읽었다. 그것은 희귀한 손의 움직임을 보존하고, 작업장과 가까이 머물며, 결코 위임할 수 없는 품질을 제공하는 것이다.
프랑스에서 만든다는 것은 단순히 손으로 물질을 형상화하는 것이 아니라, 우리 아틀리에와 빛이 머무를 공간들을 연결하는 살아 있는 실을 짜는 일이다. 모든 조명은 인내와 정밀함 속에서 탄생하지만, 동시에 인테리어 건축가와 디자이너, 그리고 그것을 아끼는 모든 이들의 피드백을 통해 완성된다: 그들의 관찰, 경험, 그리고 빛이 그들과 그들의 세계와 어떻게 대화하는지에 대한 방식이다.
모든 제스처는 기억이며, 모든 오브제는 증언이다.
“프랑스 제조”는 손과 물질, 공간, 그리고 빛을 맞이하는 사람들 사이의 조용하지만 지속적인 대화인 하나의 실이 된다.
이렇게 정성스럽게 엮인 연결 속에서 빛은 존재감과 따뜻함, 감정을 얻고, 그 뿌리를 프랑스에 두고 머물게 된다.
Fosfens 의 포도 수확
매년 가을, 아틀리에에서는 빛이 포도 수확의 향기와 어우러진다.
두 개의 조명 사이에서 우리는 Plavac Mali 포도송이를 수확한다. 프랑스어로 “작은 푸른 포도”라 불리는 이 품종은, 금속 작품을 다루듯 같은 정성으로 다뤄진다.
이 오래된 포도 품종은 플리트비체 호수 인근에 있는 우리 가족 농장에서 유래했으며, 프랑스에서 새로운 안식처를 찾았다. 아틀리에에 매달린 작은 정원 속에서 퍼골라를 타고 자라며, 마치 고향에 있는 것처럼 성장하고 있다.
이 포도나무는 인위적인 개입 없이, 식물과 계절의 자연스러운 리듬을 존중하며 완벽하게 적응했다.
매년 이곳에서 익은 포도는 상자에 담겨 파리의 친구들과 파트너들에게 전달된다.
나는 이 과정에 각별한 정성을 들이며, 직접 수확하고 전달하는 것을 고집한다. 단순한 행위이지만 내게는 특별한 의미를 지닌다.
왜냐하면 Fosfens에서는 빛과 와인이 같은 기원을 공유한다고 믿기 때문이다: 인내, 정성, 그리고 순수함을 향한 끊임없는 추구.

Last Sunday, the moon took on a red hue, a rare phenomenon where every element aligns perfectly. This light immediately reminded us of our candleholder Le Spleen de Paris. During the development of the prototype, we drew our inspiration from this phenomenon: magic reveals itself when work, intuition, and patience find their proper balance. Sometimes, in creation, a door opens without warning. It is in these moments that brilliance is born, after days, months, and years of trial and error.
In our brand-new Inspirations section, you will discover the path that guides us. The Manifesto recounts the thread of light we follow, bare, without detour. From the People shows how this inspiration, born from encounters and exchanges, transforms into luminous gestures, into objects that live with those who inhabit them.

A Friend for Always
Some dates carry a singular light. September 21, your birthday, is one of them. Like a reminder of the golden ratio, that mysterious balance that runs through art, architecture, and the most beautiful encounters.
Yvan Péard, for almost twenty-five years, you have been my friend, my brother. You could have been a father, but you became so much more. Through Ayrton, you built a luminous empire; through our friendship, you have passed on to me a unique way of seeing light and life.
You embody that radiant France: Bardot and Delon in Saint-Tropez, the great Vosne-Romanée wines shared in confidence, the Côte d’Azur where the sky melts into the sea. Even today, alongside your son Alain, you continue to create, faithful to that sacred fire that never goes out.
Your birthday is not a number. It is a beacon of light in an adventure that inspires and illuminates.

Ten Years Already…
In 2015, an improbable exchange began between you and me, Ingo Maurer, poet of light. In 2016, this relationship quietly blossomed, nurtured by trust, conversation, and a shared vision. But life, with its relentless gentleness, first took Jenny, then him, depriving me of the masterpiece we were meant to create together.
He once told me:
“At the beginning of my career… I focused a lot on the shape of lamps. Later I realized that the light itself is much more important than the form.”
These words are my compass today. He, the alchemist of the intangible; me, the craftsman shaping light without constraining it. Together, we dreamed of inhabited light. Today, every ray we shape at Fosfens whispers this legacy.
I remember his gaze when he introduced me to his stepson: a silent pride that, at the time, I did not fully grasp. Now, a father of four, I understand, as they grow, how deeply light rhymes with transmission.
We share this: light and those we love.

Gabrielle Turns Ten
This summer, she chose the workshop over vacation.
With her caliper, she measures hundredths. She cleans the pieces carefully, without being asked.
She learns without pressure, between her mother, her grandfather, her uncle.
Everything is passed on gently, through a glance, a gesture.
What she retains is not written in a manual. It is the taste for detail, patience, and the love of well-crafted work.
Watching her at work reminds me that the light of a workshop is not just a beam:
It is this bond between generations,
this promise of a bright future.
Feeling the Pressure at Work?

At Fosfens, it is our way of taming aluminium.
By creating a vacuum, the piece is held without tension, without jaws or clamps.
The metal stays in place through emptiness, allowing machining of rare precision—simple, fast, respectful of the material. The gesture is gentle, almost invisible.

And perhaps it is there that we find what truly matters: this fragile bond between the hand, the material, and time.
